A balanced, healthy diet plays a major role in our life. There are a few bad eating habits, often made unconsciously, that even if they might seem harmless, in time they can affect our health. Besides, many of these habits strongly influence our weight. The most important thing is to correct them.

Lately, an increasing number of people adopted an unhealthy lifestyle. Stress, hectic schedules, anxiety and different other issues are mainly responsible for our bad eating habits. Still, some of us grew up with them without even realizing that these habits can cause serious problems to our body and can highly contribute to the aging process.

 

  • Not drinking enough water. In this sense, it is crucial to realize the importance of a healthy and balanced diet. First of all, it is well-known the fact that water is absolutely mandatory and that a person should drink at least 2 liters daily. Indeed, this is true, yet some of us tend to drink too much water before going to sleep, even though it is advisable to do it throughout the day. If you drink too much water before going to bed, you'll only wake up with puffy eyes and swollen feet due to water retention. Also, specialists recommend not to have water before, while or immediately after eating. It is better to drink later on.
  • Skipping breakfast. You can always make some time to help your body. Therefore, the myth saying that breakfast is the most important meal of the day should become a rule for those who are eager to leave behind all bad eating habits. Did you know that skipping breakfast might lead to nervousness, lack of concentration and fatigue? You don't have to overeat at breakfast, yet remember to have something. Milk, honey, cheese, or eggs are important if you want to start your day optimistically.

  • Too much fatty and sugary foods means many calories and less nutrients. This is why, one should avoid this type of foods like sweets, biscuits, oils, chocolate, but also soft drinks with a high content of sugar. Go instead for fruits as they provide vitamins and minerals. Besides, they are main allies for a good health and can successfully replace an unhealthy snack or dessert. Still, if you are trying to lose weight, remember that there are certain fruits higher in natural calories and sugar such as bananas, avocados, pears, oranges, grapes, passion fruit, and pineapple.
  • Eating fast. Eating slowly is so beneficial for our health. Taking time to eat allows us to enjoy the food and it gives time to the body to feel the fullness. It is well-known the fact that the brain needs about 15-20 minutes to send the signal of fullness. Therefore, eating slowly can reduce the amount of food, while if you eat fast, you end up overeating.
  • Light foods only. Normally, light foods should be the healthiest choice especially when wanting to lose weight. However, specialists say that this type of foods are not necessarily the best option as some of them might prove to be dangerous for our health and weight. For example, one can be mislead by a label saying “light”, yet the product might contain numerous preservatives or artificial sweeteners that can have negative effects upon our health and can cause different allergies.

  • Unnecessary snacking. There is this error and bad habit of opening the magic snacking box whenever we fell bored or stressed. This is one thing we should avoid! Why we should do this? Because in this situation we tend to overeat, accumulating unnecessary calories. It's important to find different measures in order to control your cravings and opt for healthy snacks. Doughnuts, chips, chocolates, salty snacks, cookies, and different baked goods are a big no-no.
  • Healthy eating habits are strongly related to a good health and less diseases. On the other hand, unhealthy habits can cause diabetes, obesity, heart diseases, and lack of nutrition. Other bad eating habits that can affect us in a negative way are: junk food, too much salt, cooking in used oil.
