How to Get Rid of Dandruff





Dandruff can be an extremely upsetting and embarrassing problem especially if it persists for long periods of time. Find out what you can do to make your hair one of your best physical attributes once again.

Dandruff Basics

Dandruff is the normal process of shedding dead skin cells of the scalp. Although this process happens naturally and for most people,sometimes this process becomes more obvious and that's when the problems start to arise. The symptoms include flaking skin falling,itching of the scalp,redness and the burning sensation of the scalp.

 

Among the most common causes of dandruff are usually hormonal imbalances, hyperactivity of the sebaceous glands,dry wheather, excessive stress or the use of too many different hair products. Other potential causes include a poor diet,deficient in zinc and Omega 3 fatty acids and an imbalance in the PH of the hair.

 

Dandruff Remedies

  • The fastest and the most obvious and convenient method is the use of conventional anti dandruff shampoos. Choose a shampoo that contains one or more of the following ingredients: zinc pyrithione, Ketoconazole,selenium sulfide, coal tar or salicylic acid. All these ingredients have anti-fungal anti bacterial properties.

  • If you suspect that a poor diet might be the cause of the problem. It is important to increase your intake of zinc and to make sure you get enough vitamin A,B and E. Foods rich in zinc are peanuts, wheat germ,pumpkin seeds,cashews and almonds.

  • When you are trying to get rid of dandruff through diet you should include in your as many fruits and vegetables,beans and whole grains as possible. You should avoid milk and dairy products, fermented foods that contain yeast, sea foods,citrus fruit and to stay away from fatty foods,sugar and excessive salt.
  • Homeopathy proves to be helpful once again and offers a variety of choices when it comes to treating dandruff. A simple and effective natural remedy for dandruff is lemon juice. Add lemon juice and lemon slices into a cup of coconut oil and let the mixture stay in the sun for a week. Massage your scalp with this mixture every day for 15 days. You should be able to see an improvement within a few days.

  • To correct the PH balance of your hair you can try rinsing your hair with white vinegar or apple cider vinegar. Vinegar is also effective for killing bacteria that clogs pores. Rinse with a mixture of 50% vinegar and 50% water.

  • Aloe vera gel is another natural remedy that can help you fight dandruff. Apply Aloe vera gel to your scalp 10 minutes before washing your hair or if you have a more severe problem apply aloe vera gel and leave it over night.

  • Tea tree oil has anti fungal properties and thus it is an effective remedy for dandruff. Mix tea tree oil with coconut oil or with your shampoo and let it sit for 15 minutes then rinse.

  • Grapefruit seed extract can also be added to your shampoo to enhance its power to fight dandruff. Just mix 7-10 drops of grapefruit seed extract with the amount of shampoo you normally use and massage it into your hair for two minutes.
